Carbon Monoxide
As part of the new minimum standards for rental accommodation in Jersey, a Landlord is required to install a carbon monoxide alarm in any room with an oil, gas, wood or coal heater. The tenant will have the responsibility to test the alarm periodically.

What is Carbon Monoxide?
Highly poisonous gas produced by incomplete burning of fuels (gas, oil, wood and coal)
Boilers, cookers and ovens may be incorrectly fitted, not maintained, blocked vents
Anything that burns fuel can produce co (heaters, oil fired boilers and fires)
Colourless, odourless, tasteless
30-50 deaths per year in UK while many more become injured or seriously ill. Signs of poisoning.
Symptoms similar to flu, food poisoning, infections, tiredness (appear drunk)
Placement of Carbon Monoxide Detectors Where can I place them???
Every room that contains a fuel burning appliance or centrally located outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms
Located on wall (150mm from ceiling), ceiling(see diagram) or specified location(sleeping rooms).
Where can’t I place them???
Don’t place in cupboards, behind furniture or by outside doors and ventilation equipment such as extractor fans.
Keep away from areas of high condensation such as bathrooms/shower rooms or next to cooker hobs.
Never fit directly above or beside fuel burning appliances.
